From its inception two years ago, California Against Slavery (CAS) has been unwavering in our commitment to place our initiative on the ballot. We believe in the strategic significance of strong laws and the collective power of voters.

Over a year ago, I said that CAS will not launch another signature campaign unless we have    assurance of success. This means securing a strong base of support and funding.

TODAY, I am thrilled to announce that we are launching our signature campaign this December 1st!

Let’s Catch Up to Georgia!

After fighting for four years to get this legislation to pass, Georgia’s tough anti-human trafficking law has been put into practice. The new law has tough penalties for violators including the following:

-25-year minimum sentence for perpetrators caught using coercion trafficking a child under 18 years old.

Freedom is *not* free.

On this July 4th, there is much to celebrate about. In addition to freedom from tyranny, the facts that I as a woman, an immigrant, and a person of color can have a terrific education and career, can drive, own property, and move about freely are among other reasons to celebrate.

The recent war and civil unrests in the Middle East are new reminders that freedom is not free. The 1776 Declaration of Independence that our Founding Fathers established requires continual sacrifice to defend and actualize. Here’s a bleak sample:
