About

This is the official blog of California Against Slavery (CAS), a non-partisan, citizen-driven human rights organization. We are citizens who are dedicated to the eradication of human trafficking or modern slavery, starting in our own backyard. We are working to give California stronger laws to stop human trafficking by engaging millions of voters through the ballot initiative process.

We need your help to raise $1M by October 2011 to fund our signature campaign scheduled for November 2011 to April 2012.  Please make a generous donation now. And make this summer meaningful by committing to raise $1000 for CAS. If 1000 people raise $1000, we will have $1M to place this historic and monumental initiative on the 2012 ballot.

Contributors to this blog are members of the CAS leadership team. Occasionally, we invite guests to contribute.

Our Mission:

To defend the freedom of every child, woman and man by empowering the people of California to fulfill our obligation to stop human trafficking.

Our Goal:

To pass a ballot initiative in 2012 to enact just and effective state laws to protect victims and prevent and prosecute the crime of human trafficking.

In doing so, California will lead our nation in a historic movement to stop modern day slavery.

What we believe

  • Every person has an inherent dignity which our society and laws must uphold and protect .
  • Human trafficking is a crime against human dignity and a deprivation of basic human and civil rights.
  • Allowing any form of slavery to exist severely impacts our society and communities. It is a problem that concerns us all.
