We got the funding. Let’s do it! – California Against Slavery Blog

We got the funding. Let’s do it!

From its inception two years ago, California Against Slavery (CAS) has been unwavering in our commitment to place our initiative on the ballot. We believe in the strategic significance of strong laws and the collective power of voters.

Over a year ago, I said that CAS will not launch another signature campaign unless we have    assurance of success. This means securing a strong base of support and funding.

TODAY, I am thrilled to announce that we are launching our signature campaign this December 1st!

In the past year, we built a strong support from 16 of the largest law enforcement associations in California, as well as numerous state and national advocacy groups! On top of that, Congresswoman Jackie Speier has signed on as our honorary co-chair!

Now all of our efforts and endorsements have culminated in a miracle!

I am very excited to share that CAS is partnering with the Safer California Foundation to jointly place this critical initiative on the ballot. The Safer California is founded by Chris Kelly, a Silicon Valley attorney and philanthropist dedicated to making the Internet and world a safer place for kids and adults alike.

The partnership with the Safer California Foundation will not only ensure the funds to hire paid petitioners to help us reach our goal, it will also provide campaign expertise to guarantee our success.

We are ready! Can we count on you?

We can’t do it without you! We need the help of volunteers like you and your family, friends, neighbors to collect the 750,000 signatures required to get the initiative on the November, 2012 ballot.

What you can do right now!

1)    Mark December 1st on your calendar.

2)    Sign up to volunteer and for training now.

3)    Tell everyone you know!

4)    Enlist 10-100 volunteers for CAS (e.g. via house parties).

This initiative will be the largest effort in 2012 against human trafficking in our country. We want as many people involved as possible in this historic movement. I know that you will look back in 20 years and feel proud of it.

It’s time for justice. It’s time to act. This is your time to make a difference.

Sincerely,

Daphne Phung
